ນອກຈາກເຮັດເຄັກແລ້ວຍັງເຮັດອາຊີບຫຍັງຕື່ມ?

ແປພາສາລາວເປັນຫວຽດ-ຫວຽດເປັນລາວ ເຮັດມາໄດ້ 30 ປີແລ້ວ ເພາະແຕ່ກ່ອນແມ່ນ ໄດ້ເຮັດວຽກຢູ່ທີ່ສະຖານທູດຫວຽດປະຈຳລາວ ປັດຈຸບັນເຂົ້າບໍານານແລ້ວ. ສຸດທ້າຍ ຕ້ອງຂອບໃຈບັນດາລູດຄ້າທີ່ມາອຸດໜູນຢູ່ຕະຫຼອດເວລາ ແລະ ໃຫ້ຄຳຄິດເຫັນວ່າແຊບຫຼືບໍ່ແຊບນັ້ນແມ່ນຈະເອົາໄປປັບປຸງ ພັດທະນາ ຜະລິດຕະພັນຂອງເຮົາໃຫ້ດີຂຶ້ນ.

 

Jelly Cakes – another business becoming a hit

“It started off with me just making something for my grandchildren to eat on International Children’s Day on 1 June 2014 and uploading the pictures to Facebook. Many people pressed ‘Like’ and asked how much it cost and where I bought it. I realized that I could make a business out of this so started buying the necessary equipment to make this jelly so that I could improve the taste and how it looked so that I could sell it on Facebook. I took some to my son’s office for him to eat and his coworkers tasted it too, soon becoming addicted. I then received more and more orders as word spread and before long, the number of orders became considerable. Selling online, more and more people came to know about me and my sales rocketed in a matter of just a few months. I was getting orders from cake stores in other provinces and I don’t deliver that far – they come and pick them up themselves. The thing that sells best are my glass jellies because they are easy to transport in great quantities. After that, it is my bite-size chunks.”

How has your business grown?

“I now have approximately 400 regular customers, including retail and wholesale. Among these are a number of people from other provinces who are starting to hear about me and buy from me in ever greater quantities. Examples include Luang Prabang, Xayabouly, Savannakhet, and Thakhek.”

Ms. Souboualien Xayyavong adds that “I enjoy decorating so I incorporate this into my cake decorations and have lots of different shapes for my customers to choose from as I get orders for birthday cakes for both adults and children. I send pictures via WhatApp so the customers can choose which to buy and they can put their names on them just like with regular cakes because I have all 24 letters of the alphabet. Sometimes I decorate them with shapes of various animals. The special thing about my jelly cakes is that I use fresh milk, coconut milk, sugar, and coloring. The thing that keeps customers coming back is my wide variety of colorful decorations and patterns which are not repeated. In the future, I will be using natural themes with ansan flowers and pandanus leaves as ingredients.”

What goals do you have for your business in the future, especially with respect to the AEC?

“I plan to expand my business further because right now I only have one branch – Nong Niew cake shop in Sikhottabong district, Vientiane Capital – which has been open for two months now. Anyone wishing to become one of our branches must have a suitable shop to sell from, the means to pick up our goods conveniently, and most importantly, must sell at the same prices as us. There is no doubt that when we join the AEC, there will be more visitors to Laos and this will represent a potential for our businesses to expand and increase their sales and turnovers.”

In addition to your cakes, what other work do you do?

“I have been translating Vietnamese into Lao for thirty years now because I used to work at the Vietnamese embassy but am retired now.

I would like to finish off by thanking my customers, who have supported me all this time, and tell me what they think is tasty and what is not so that I can improve and develop my products.
